About the role
The Technology for Development Specialist (National UN Volunteer – Specialist) will be based in Kigali and will support UNICEF Rwanda’s education and digital transformation agenda. The role focuses on improving school connectivity, designing and implementing EdTech programmes, and supporting teachers in integrating digital tools into classrooms.
Key responsibilities
- Support school connectivity initiatives, monitor real‑time internet connectivity, and serve as the technical focal point for Giga‑related systems.
- Coordinate with the Rwanda Basic Education Board, Rwanda Information Society Authority and partners to validate and update school connectivity data and digital school profiles.
- Design and implement EdTech programmes, including budgeting, low‑cost digital learning tools for literacy and numeracy, and alignment of digital applications with curriculum.
- Prepare, test, deploy and manage digital devices and learning equipment for primary schools.
- Provide teacher orientation and training on digital tool integration, develop guidance materials, and conduct school visits to monitor usage and address challenges.
- Support district and school‑level coordination, monitor implementation risks (safeguarding, storage, accessibility) and contribute to monitoring tools, reporting systems and knowledge management.
- Prepare reports, presentations, briefs and partner updates.
Required profile
- Proven experience in education technology, school connectivity monitoring and digital learning implementation.
- Experience working with government agencies, education boards or UN partners on ICT‑related projects.
- Ability to design and manage EdTech programmes, budgets and technical specifications.
- Strong coordination and reporting skills in a multi‑stakeholder environment.
