Senior Regulatory Food Specialist

About the role

The Senior Regulatory Food Specialist will oversee food-related regulatory compliance for programs and activities supported by PLAY International-Rwanda. This part‑time, remote position focuses on ensuring food safety policies align with national and international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review and update food safety policies and ensure alignment with standards.
• Advise on menu planning and food service procedures for events and educational initiatives.
• Collaborate with program managers and partners to assess food preparation practices and identify risks.
• Conduct research on regulatory requirements and draft guidance documents.
• Support the creation of training materials for staff and volunteers.
• Perform periodic audits of food service providers and coordinate with external regulatory bodies.

Required profile

• Strong communication skills to convey regulatory requirements to diverse stakeholders.
• Advanced knowledge of food safety regulations, nutrition considerations for youth, and risk management.
• Experience working with NGOs, educational programs, or community‑based initiatives is an asset.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage part‑time hours effectively.
• Relevant academic background in food science, nutrition, public health, or a related field is preferred.
