Health, Safety & Environment Officer

About the role

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer will lead the implementation, monitoring and promotion of ContourGlobal’s HSEQ management system at the Kibuye power plant. The role ensures compliance with legislation, industry standards and internal policies while fostering a proactive safety culture across plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver HSEQ awareness through safety inductions, toolbox talks and supervision for employees, visitors and contractors.
• Design and execute a monthly HSEQ training and awareness plan covering all onsite stakeholders.
• Verify that all work activities comply with HSEQ requirements and procedures.
• Develop and run an internal audit and inspection programme for the Integrated Management System.
• Collect, compile and submit accurate HSEQ data to the Velocity EHS online database and to external stakeholders such as lenders.
• Create and follow action plans to address deviations, non‑conformities, safety concerns and identified hazards.
• Analyse HSEQ statistics, coordinate the zero‑injury programme and lead incident investigation and trending.
• Promote continuous improvement tools such as the 5‑Why analysis.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of health, safety, environmental and quality legislation and standards.
• Experience in conducting HSEQ audits, inspections and incident investigations.
• Ability to develop training programmes and communicate safety concepts effectively.
• Proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Velocity EHS database.
• Knowledge of Integrated Management System (IMS) audit processes.
