Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer

About the role

The Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer will implement, monitor, and promote ContourGlobal’s HSEQ management system at the Kibuye power plant. The role ensures compliance with applicable legislation, industry standards and internal policies while fostering a proactive safety culture across plant operations.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver regular HSEQ awareness activities such as safety inductions, toolbox talks and supervision for employees, visitors and contractors.
• Develop and execute a monthly HSEQ training and awareness plan covering all staff, onsite contractors and other stakeholders.
• Ensure all work activities comply with HSEQ requirements and procedures.
• Design and run an Integrated Management System internal audit and inspection programme.
• Compile and submit accurate HSEQ data and reports to the Velocity EHS online database, government bodies and lenders.
• Create action plans for identified deviations, non‑conformities, safety concerns and hazards, and monitor their implementation.
• Collect, analyse and report HSEQ statistics in a timely manner.
• Coordinate the zero‑injury programme and promote continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in implementing and maintaining HSEQ management systems.
• Good knowledge of relevant health, safety, environmental legislation and industry standards.
• Ability to conduct training, audits and inspections effectively.
• Strong analytical skills for data collection, statistical analysis and reporting.
• Excellent communication skills to engage employees, contractors and external stakeholders.
