Regional Community Conservation Manager, Sudano Sahel

About the role

The Regional Community Conservation Manager leads the implementation of a rights‑based approach to conservation across the Sudano‑Sahel, strengthening local communities’ role in conservation solutions. The role works closely with community conservation teams and senior management to design and deliver community‑based initiatives that align with WCS’s regional strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Drive high‑impact, rights‑based community conservation programs in Cameroon, Nigeria, Chad and CAR.
• Partner with the Global Markets team to develop community‑led commodity chains for cocoa and shea, and design benefit‑sharing mechanisms linked to payment for ecosystem services.
• Provide technical support to site managers, guiding zoning, FPIC processes and inclusive governance structures.
• Lead applied social‑science integration, overseeing surveys, behavior‑change research and monitoring tools such as Kobo Toolbox.
• Mentor country teams, fostering adaptive problem‑solving and ensuring community outcomes are reflected in technical reporting.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in social or environmental sciences (anthropology advantageous).
• 7–10 years of field experience in international NGOs in Africa, focused on community‑based conservation and natural resource management.
• Proven ability to deliver research on the human dimensions of conservation and to guide senior management.
