Claims Payable Accountant

About the role

The Claims Payable Accountant will ensure that all claims and performance cash guarantees are accurately recorded and paid on time. Working within Old Mutual’s Finance team in Rwanda, the role collaborates closely with the Claims department, service providers and the treasury unit to maintain reliable payment processes and compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Record and process all claims and performance cash guarantees, ensuring timely payments.
• Reconcile service provider and supplier statements and confirm quarterly balances.
• Analyse inter‑company claims, book entries and prepare payments.
• Verify core system data against the finance system and settle general claims payments.
• Prepare weekly payment proposals for treasury cash‑flow projections.
• Maintain documentation for all payments and support tax accounting on invoice taxes.
• Coordinate the end‑to‑end claims payment process in the finance system, including invoice and contract analysis.
• Review claims, reimbursements and cash collateral refunds for proper documentation before payment.
• Support monthly balance‑sheet substantiation and provide detailed account analysis.
• Ensure compliance with AML, KYC and sanctions policies, escalating any breaches to the Risk and Compliance Office.

Required profile

• Relevant accounting qualification; NQF Level 2 or Level 3 acceptable.
• Strong understanding of finance operations, payment cycles and reconciliation.
• Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders and adhere to internal controls.
• Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate documentation.
• Experience with compliance, AML and KYC processes is advantageous.
