WASH Engineer

About the role

World Vision is recruiting a WASH Engineer in Nyungwe, Rwanda, to oversee water, sanitation and hygiene infrastructure projects. The role covers detailed investigations, design reviews, contractor supervision, site inspections and reporting, working closely with district engineers and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out detailed investigations and water resource development studies with district engineers, and review designs at feasibility, preliminary and detailed stages
• Prepare and review TORs, technical drawings, designs, bills of quantities, cost estimates, technical specifications and tender documents
• Supervise contractors during construction of water supply systems, sanitation blocks, waste management systems, handwashing stations and menstrual hygiene rooms, and verify compliance with drawings, BOQs, building codes and quality benchmarks
• Conduct regular site inspections, track progress against the implementation plan and submit weekly and monthly progress reports
• Recommend corrective actions, inspect before phase reception and recommend payments, and map completed infrastructure in mWater
• Keep up with WASH sector developments in Rwanda and advise on sustainable development and maintenance of WASH infrastructure
• Prepare regular progress reports and support the handover and commissioning of projects, including as-built documentation
• Review tender documents, verify construction estimations and costs, and support the supply chain in BoQs and bid evaluation
• Monitor gender-sensitive and disability-inclusive features in infrastructure and ensure contractors follow safety and environmental protocols

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, water engineering, sanitary engineering or a related field
• At least 3 years of experience in designing and constructing WASH and health infrastructure projects
• Experience reviewing detailed investigations, preparing BOQs and cost estimates, and supervising contractors
• Must be a committed Christian, able to stand above denominational differences
