Senior Agriculture Economist

About the role
The World Bank is seeking a Senior Agriculture Economist to join its Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) region team in Kigali, Rwanda. In this position you will help shape policies and programs that boost agricultural productivity, improve livelihoods, and enhance climate resilience across 26 ESA countries.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct rigorous economic analysis of agricultural sectors, including productivity trends, market dynamics, and climate impacts.
- Develop policy recommendations and advisory services for client governments, development partners, and private sector stakeholders.
- Lead and coordinate research studies, assessments, and reports that inform World Bank lending and grant operations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including agronomists, climate experts, and finance specialists, to design integrated development solutions.
- Represent the World Bank in regional forums, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
Required profile
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, or a closely related field.
- At least eight years of professional experience in agricultural economics, preferably within the African context.
- Demonstrated expertise in agricultural policy analysis, rural development, and climate‑smart agriculture.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, with a proven record of producing high‑quality technical reports.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in French is an asset.
