Safeguarding Officer

About the role

The Safeguarding Officer will lead child safeguarding across Save the Children Rwanda offices, ensuring that all programmes identify and mitigate risks to children. The role works closely with programme development, operations, risk & compliance, and field teams to embed safeguarding standards into every activity.

Key responsibilities

• Champion child safeguarding at national level, advising programme teams on risk identification, mitigation measures and staff responsibilities.
• Design, deliver and refresh mandatory safeguarding training and inductions for staff and partners.
• Review and strengthen safeguarding systems, monitor policy implementation, and lead compliance action plans.
• Provide guidance on reporting procedures, ensure concerns are followed up safely, and analyse case data for organizational learning.
• Act as the safeguarding focal point for field offices, supporting risk assessments and establishing strong procedures.
• Collaborate with security and risk teams to assess threats, develop security briefings and support crisis response.

• Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teams, holding partners accountable while fostering a learning environment.
• Strong technical and professional expertise in safeguarding, risk assessment and capacity building.
• Excellent networking skills, building trust with diverse stakeholders and forming effective partnerships.
