Economic Affairs Intern

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Kigali is seeking an Economic Affairs Intern to support the Sub‑regional Office for Eastern Africa. Working under the Director of the Sub‑regional Office, the intern will contribute to research, analysis, and outreach activities that promote sustainable economic development in the region.

Key responsibilities

• Produce analytical, quantitative and qualitative inputs for reports and documents.
• Research and analyse topics related to sustainable economic development in Eastern Africa.
• Draft, edit and proofread publications, papers and other written materials.
• Liaise with SRO‑EA stakeholders on key development issues.
• Support the organisation of meetings, events and outreach activities.
• Assist with day‑to‑day operational tasks, including information requests and presentation development.
• Perform assigned administrative duties.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a graduate‑level degree programme (or equivalent four‑year university study).
• No prior professional experience required.
• Fluency in oral and written English; knowledge of French is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
