Business Development Officer – Insurance Broking

About the role

The Business Development Officer will represent Britam’s insurance portfolio in Rwanda, promoting both general and medical insurance products through a network of intermediaries, agents and brokers. Reporting to the Country Sales Manager, the role focuses on acquiring new business, nurturing existing relationships and ensuring smooth policy administration.

Key responsibilities

• Secure new business directly or via intermediaries and aggregators.
• Maintain strong relationships with existing intermediaries, aggregators and clients.
• Follow up on policy renewals and premium collections.
• Forward proposals and policy forms to underwriting, ensuring compliance with guidelines.
• Identify and recommend financial advisors, agents and brokers for recruitment.
• Provide timely quotations to assigned agents, brokers and financial advisors.
• Prepare weekly performance and activity reports.
• Gather market intelligence on competition, new products and company image.
• Handle customer enquiries and complaints, directing them to appropriate departments.
• Collect initial claim information and coordinate with the Claims Department.
• Meet performance targets defined in the department’s strategy and scorecards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a business‑related field.
• Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., ACII, IIK) are a plus.
• 2‑4 years of business development or sales experience in the insurance sector.
• Knowledge of Rwanda’s insurance regulatory environment.
• Familiarity with general and medical insurance products.
