Business Development Officer – Broking & Bancassurance

About the role

The Business Development Officer will represent Britam’s insurance portfolio in Rwanda, promoting both general and medical insurance products through a network of intermediaries, agents and brokers. Reporting to the Country Sales Manager, the role focuses on expanding market share, maintaining strong client relationships, and ensuring smooth policy administration.

Key responsibilities

• Secure new business directly or via intermediaries and aggregators.
• Maintain and grow relationships with existing intermediaries, aggregators and clients.
• Follow up on renewals, premium collections and forward proposals to underwriting.
• Identify, recommend and recruit financial advisors, agents and brokers.
• Provide timely quotations to allocated partners.
• Prepare weekly performance and activity reports.
• Collect market intelligence on competition, new products and brand perception.
• Handle customer enquiries and complaints, directing them to appropriate departments.
• Gather initial claim information and coordinate with the Claims Department.
• Meet performance targets defined in the department’s strategy and scorecards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a business‑related field.
• Professional insurance qualifications (e.g., ACII, IIK) are a plus.
• 2–4 years of business development or sales experience in the insurance sector.
• Good knowledge of Rwanda’s insurance regulatory environment.
• Understanding of general and medical insurance products.
