Associate Director of Knowledge Creation

About the role

The Associate Director of Knowledge Creation will shape and drive the research agenda of the Center for Inclusive Digital Transformation of Africa. Reporting to the Center Director and working closely with CMU‑Africa leadership, faculty and partner institutions, the role focuses on building a vibrant, collaborative research ecosystem that supports inclusive digital transformation across the continent.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the strategic plan for the Knowledge Creation pillar, aligning it with the Center’s mission.
• Lead cross‑institutional research collaborations within the Afretec network and external partners.
• Secure external research funding and manage grant portfolios.
• Mentor and develop emerging African researchers and research teams.
• Translate research outcomes into policy recommendations, educational resources, and societal impact.
• Represent CMU‑Africa and the Afretec network at conferences, workshops and stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in engineering, computer science, information systems or a related field.
• Proven senior leadership experience in research management or academic administration.
• Strong record of high‑impact publications and successful external funding acquisition.
• Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with academia, industry, government and NGOs.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
