Senior Tax Accountant

About the role

The Senior Tax Accountant will join the bank's tax team to ensure accurate preparation, review, and filing of all tax obligations while supporting strategic tax planning and compliance with Rwandan tax regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and submit tax returns for VAT, withholding tax, PAYE, pension and maternity contributions.
• Handle quarterly CIT pre‑payments and annual CIT returns.
• Obtain and file trading licences for branches and head office.
• Ensure timely and accurate tax declarations in line with Rwandan tax law.
• Compute taxes payable, reconcile monthly tax GL, and report issues to the Tax Manager.
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess business impact.
• Apply IFRS and local regulations for proper tax accounting, including deferred tax calculations and disclosure notes.
• Advise on tax implications of cross‑border transactions, contracts with non‑resident vendors, and double‑taxation agreements.
• Maintain liaison with the Rwanda Revenue Authority, request withholding certificates, and support accounts payable and branch accountants on tax compliance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in a tax‑focused role.
• Professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA or CAT (or actively pursuing).
• Strong knowledge of Rwandan tax laws and regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems.
• Working knowledge of IFRS tax accounting standards.
