Safety, Security & Safeguarding Coordinator

About the role

The Safety, Security and Safeguarding Coordinator works closely with the Regional Security Director to assess safety and security risks, support implementation of Save the Children’s policies, and champion child safeguarding across Rwanda and Burundi offices.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety and security assessments and provide recommendations for country offices.
• Facilitate implementation of the organisation’s Safety and Security Policy and Standards.
• Lead child safeguarding efforts, ensuring compliance with Minimum Standards and safeguarding policies.
• Advocate for safeguarding at national level and establish country safeguarding networks.
• Map service providers for children and keep local safeguarding procedures up‑to‑date.
• Coach and support field focal points to improve safeguarding practice.
• Ensure safeguarding considerations are integrated into programme design, budgeting and monitoring.
• Provide guidance and capacity‑building to emergency and humanitarian response teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience in safety, security or child safeguarding within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong knowledge of child protection standards and ability to apply them in programme settings.
• Excellent advocacy and communication skills to influence stakeholders at national and field levels.
• Ability to work collaboratively with programme, operations and HR teams across multiple countries.
• Commitment to integrity, anti‑fraud policies and zero‑tolerance for misconduct.
