Safety, Security and Safeguarding Coordinator

About the role

The Safety, Security and Safeguarding Coordinator works closely with the Regional Security Director to assess safety and security risks and support their implementation across country programmes. The role leads child safeguarding efforts in Rwanda and Burundi, ensuring compliance with Save the Children’s policies and standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety and security assessments and make recommendations for country offices.
• Facilitate implementation of Save the Children’s Safety and Security Policy and Standards.
• Lead child safeguarding across Rwanda and Burundi, identifying risks and planning mitigation measures.
• Advocate for safeguarding policies at national level and establish country safeguarding networks.
• Map service providers for children and develop local safeguarding procedures.
• Coach and support Field Focal Points to improve safeguarding practice.
• Ensure safeguarding is integrated into programme design, implementation and monitoring.
• Secure appropriate budgeting for safeguarding activities in new project proposals.

Required profile

• Experience working in humanitarian or development programmes, preferably with a focus on safety, security or child safeguarding.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding policies and minimum standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively with programme and operations teams.
• Excellent communication and advocacy skills at national and field levels.
