Research Scientist I – Clinical Development (Kigali)

About the role

The International Vaccine Institute is looking for a Research Scientist I to join its Clinical Development Department in Kigali, Rwanda. This two‑year renewable position will coordinate, initiate and complete clinical research projects while ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the highest ethical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and supervise clinical trials, including protocol development and submissions to IVI and local IRBs/NRA.
• Oversee project interventions for designated diseases and support the preparation of proposals, tools and protocols for clinical and field trials.
• Develop and maintain external networks, identify potential partners, and coordinate partnership agreements in line with international and local standards.
• Contribute to budgeting, contract negotiations with CROs, and ensure timely development of research agreements.
• Assist in archiving project documentation and updating standard operating procedures according to regulatory requirements.
• Publish scientific papers and present findings at conferences and professional meetings.

Required profile

• Understanding of GCP guidelines and relevant clinical research regulations.
• Ability to protect human subjects participating in clinical studies.
• Experience coordinating multi‑site clinical projects and collaborating with investigators and regulatory bodies.
