Regional Internal Auditor

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a Regional Internal Auditor to provide assurance and advisory services across Rwanda and Zimbabwe. This is a three‑year renewable contract focused on risk‑based internal audit, governance evaluation, and continuous improvement of the internal audit function.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, monitor, and conduct quality internal audits and advisory engagements, including risk assessments and scope definition.
• Develop and execute risk‑based audit programs, document procedures, and prepare high‑quality draft reports.
• Follow up on audit recommendations and assist in quarterly reporting to senior management.
• Lead special investigations and coordinate with external auditors and other assurance providers.
• Drive improvement and innovation in the internal audit approach, ensuring alignment with IIA standards.
• Maintain strong client relationships, provide independent advisory services, and share best practices across the region.

Required profile

• BSc/HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience leading internal audit engagements, including IT audits.
• Professional qualifications such as CIA, CISA, CFE, CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Proven experience in managing and developing audit staff.
• Strong knowledge of IIA standards and recognized risk and control frameworks.
