Managing Director – Operations & Commercial Lead

About the role

Abahizi CBC, Rwanda’s leading handbag manufacturer, is seeking a Managing Director to lead its operational and commercial activities. Reporting to the Board, you will drive production, quality, efficiency and financial performance while championing the company’s social mission to empower women in rural Rwanda.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations across production, supply chain, quality and logistics, ensuring contractual standards are met.
• Design and implement scalable processes that boost productivity, reduce waste and support growth.
• Ensure on‑time delivery and product quality, proactively resolving bottlenecks.
• Maintain compliance with Rwandan law, labor standards, health and safety, and international buyer requirements.
• Own commercial results – revenue, margins and order pipeline – and develop strategies to enhance competitiveness.
• Identify and pursue new customers, markets, products and contracts aligned with the social mission.
• Manage financial health including budgeting, cash flow, costing, reporting and financial controls.
• Balance earned revenue with grants to move toward long‑term financial self‑reliance.
• Lead strategic planning with the Board, set annual goals and monitor performance.
• Build and lead a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in manufacturing or production environments.
• Strong commercial acumen with a track record of driving revenue and margin growth.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations, supply chains and quality systems.
• Experience in financial management, budgeting and reporting.
• Commitment to social impact and empowering women in rural communities.
