International Consultant – IGAD AfCFTA Implementation

About the role

The International Consultant will lead the technical delivery of a project aimed at accelerating the implementation of the IGAD AfCFTA Regional Implementation Strategy. The role focuses on strengthening private‑sector participation in AfCFTA trade and building institutional capacity for trade facilitation across IGAD member states.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate with IGAD Member States to identify and mentor AfCFTA Champion enterprises.
• Support champion enterprises to commence trading under the AfCFTA framework.
• Strengthen the capacity of customs officials at borders and airports for effective AfCFTA implementation.
• Produce required project outputs and deliverables in line with the two main results of the assignment.

Required profile

• Proven experience in trade facilitation, customs operations, or regional integration projects.
• Demonstrated ability to work across multiple countries and stakeholder groups.
• Strong understanding of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and IGAD regional dynamics.
