HSE Manager (m/f)

About the role

The HSE Manager will lead the implementation and enforcement of Health, Safety and Environmental policies across all operational areas of Mota-Engil in Rwanda. The role involves managing the HSE team, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and continuously improve the HSE management system.
• Conduct regular inspections, audits and risk assessments to identify hazards.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate emergency response planning, drills and readiness.
• Monitor HSE performance metrics and prepare management reports.
• Represent the company in HSE‑related meetings, forums and regulatory inspections.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of HSE management experience on large‑scale construction projects, including 3+ years on high‑rise buildings.
• Experience working in Africa or other developing countries with challenging environments.
• Cross‑cultural sensitivity and ability to work in diverse settings.

Required skills

• NEBOSH IGC certification (essential).
• ISO & ISO Auditor certification (preferred).
• Proficiency with MS Office tools.
• Ability to read and use AutoCAD drawings.
• Fluent English communication.
