GIS & Data Coordinator

About the role

The GIS & Data Coordinator will support the systematic management and quality of datasets produced by field programs across key conservation landscapes and protected‑area projects in Africa. Reporting to the Conservation Impact Manager, the role ensures that geospatial and field data are accurate, timely, and ready for decision‑making and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Create and maintain a centralized GIS database for Africa, integrating corrected geospatial layers.
• Visualise data in detailed maps to support planning and decision‑making.
• Train and support field teams on common data‑collection and analysis workflows using tools such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, KoboToolBox, SMART, EarthRanger, and SERCA.
• Centralise, validate, and organise data from multiple sources, ensuring proper formatting for analysis.
• Conduct regular field visits to verify data quality, understand operational contexts, and strengthen local data systems.
• Produce data summaries, visualisations, and ad‑hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide technical support and capacity‑building for GIS, MEL, and conservation‑technology tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in geospatial analysis, data analytics or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in data coordination, GIS, MEL or related technical work.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• GIS software: QGIS, ArcGIS (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise), ESRI products.
• Data‑collection tools: KoboToolBox, SMART, EarthRanger.
• Programming languages: Python, R (preferred).
• Data‑visualisation tools: Tableau, Power BI.
