Education and Communications Consultant – Kenya (Remote)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Education and Communications Consultant to support our client’s higher‑education transformation initiatives across Africa. The role is part‑time, contract‑based, and can be performed remotely, with a preference for candidates based in Kigali, Rwanda.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic advisory support to the communications team in implementing the overall communications strategy.
• Identify and engage key opinion leaders to speak or write about higher‑education sector transformation.
• Recommend collaboration opportunities and networks for sharing impact stories.
• Advise on regional policies and ecosystem trends that shape higher‑education advocacy.
• Draft policy briefs for priority countries and review opinion pieces for factual accuracy.
• Conduct stakeholder mapping across government, academia, regional agencies, private sector, philanthropic and youth networks.
• Suggest reputable media agencies, publications and networks for outreach.
• Recommend and coordinate strategic events that showcase partner work and create speaking opportunities for senior leadership.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in education, public policy, communications, international development, public health or a related field.
• 8‑10 years of experience in strategic communications, policy advocacy, or stakeholder engagement, preferably within higher education or health‑workforce development.
• Deep knowledge of Africa’s higher‑education landscape, health‑workforce development and regional policy ecosystems.
• Established network of key opinion leaders, government officials, academic institutions, regional agencies and private‑sector partners.
