Managing Director

About the role

The Managing Director is responsible for the overall operational and commercial performance of Abahizi CBC, a leading Rwandan handbag manufacturer with a strong social mission. Reporting to the Board, the MD leads day‑to‑day business, drives production efficiency, ensures financial health, and safeguards the company’s impact on women and the community.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations across production, supply chain, quality, and logistics to meet customer standards and contractual obligations.
• Develop scalable processes that improve productivity, reduce waste, and support growth while ensuring compliance with Rwandan law and international buyer requirements.
• Lead commercial performance by managing revenue, margins, order pipeline, and pursuing new customers, markets, and contracts.
• Maintain overall financial accountability, including budgeting, cash‑flow management, costing, and transparent reporting.
• Build and nurture a high‑performing management team, promote a culture of fairness and wellbeing, and represent the company to funders, government, and development partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management or related field; MBA or equivalent is a plus.
• 8–10 years of senior leadership experience, preferably in manufacturing or production enterprises, with proven success in operations, supply chain, quality, and delivery at scale.
• Strong track record in financial management, budgeting, business growth and commercial performance.
• Demonstrated commitment to social impact, especially women’s empowerment, and experience balancing commercial goals with community objectives.
• Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda; some understanding of French is desirable.
