About the role
The Pediatrician will deliver comprehensive, high‑quality pediatric and neonatal care at Butaro Level II Teaching Hospital while actively participating in teaching, mentorship, quality improvement, research, and health‑system strengthening activities in partnership with the University of Global Health Equity.
Key responsibilities
- Provide inpatient and outpatient care for neonates, infants, children, and adolescents with acute and chronic conditions.
- Lead daily pediatric ward rounds and contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions.
- Deliver emergency pediatric care, including stabilization and referral coordination for critically ill children.
- Participate in on‑call schedules for pediatric and neonatal services.
- Manage neonatal care in the unit, delivery room, and maternity wards, including resuscitation and treatment of prematurity, sepsis, jaundice, respiratory distress, and low‑birth‑weight complications.
- Promote quality‑improvement initiatives such as infection prevention, Kangaroo Mother Care, and breastfeeding support.
- Collaborate with the pediatric oncology team to care for children with cancer and related medical conditions.
- Support development and implementation of clinical protocols and standard operating procedures.
