Mental Health Director

About the role

The Mental Health Director will lead Partners In Health’s mental health program across three Rwandan districts, overseeing clinical services in hospitals, health centers and community settings. Reporting to the Head of Division for Clinical Programs, the role combines strategic planning, clinical stewardship and hands‑on mentorship to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered care.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall clinical leadership for mental health services across all IMB‑supported facilities.
• Develop, disseminate and implement evidence‑based clinical guidelines, care pathways and SOPs for priority mental health and neurological conditions.
• Ensure safety and quality of pharmacological, psychological and psychosocial interventions, including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, epilepsy and neurological care.
• Lead patient‑safety initiatives, manage psychiatric emergencies and promote dignity‑centered care.
• Mentor and supervise senior mental health clinicians and program managers.
• Drive quality‑improvement projects and support systems strengthening at hospital, health‑center and community levels.
• Engage with national partners and stakeholders to align the decentralized mental health model with national policies.

Required profile

• Extensive clinical experience in mental health, including psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.
• Proven leadership in a multi‑site health program, preferably in low‑resource settings.
• Strong ability to mentor clinicians and build capacity across diverse teams.
• Excellent communication skills and experience collaborating with government and NGOs.
