About the role

UNICEF Rwanda is seeking an experienced consultant to strengthen Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) systems in preparation for a potential Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak. The role will provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Centre and other national and sub‑national partners.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Ministry of Health and Rwanda Biomedical Centre in developing and implementing EVD‑specific WASH and IPC strategies.
  • Strengthen IPC practices in health facilities and scale up WASH services in high‑risk communities.
  • Enhance community‑based preparedness through training, risk communication and monitoring.
  • Ensure continuity of essential health and WASH services during emergency response.
  • Coordinate with UNICEF, government agencies and partners to align technical interventions.

Required profile

  • University degree (Bachelors or higher) in Public Health, Environmental Health, WASH, Engineering, Epidemiology or a related field.
  • Minimum eight years of experience in the WASH sector, particularly in public‑health emergencies such as Ebola or Marburg.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in cross‑cultural and multi‑cultural teams.
  • Previous experience with UNICEF on similar assignments is highly desirable.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills in English and Kinyarwanda.
