Technical Advisor, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer

About the role

The Technical Advisor, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineer will support CHAI Rwanda in designing and implementing AI‑driven solutions that strengthen the country’s health system. Working closely with the Government of Rwanda, the role focuses on improving health financing, service delivery, and digital health initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with government partners to identify AI use cases that enhance health system efficiency and equity.
• Develop, test, and deploy AI models and data pipelines aligned with Rwanda’s Universal Health Coverage goals.
• Provide technical guidance to multidisciplinary teams on AI best practices, data governance, and ethical considerations.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of AI solutions on health outcomes and cost effectiveness.
• Contribute to knowledge sharing and capacity building within CHAI and local stakeholders.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in applying AI or machine learning to health or public sector challenges.
• Strong understanding of health systems, especially in low‑ and middle‑income contexts.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with government officials and international partners.
