Skilled Healthcare Interpreter

About the role

UIO Languages Rwanda is seeking professional Healthcare Interpreters to facilitate real‑time communication between U.S. healthcare providers and patients. The role involves interpreting medical consultations via phone or video, ensuring accurate conveyance of information in both English and a partner language.

Key responsibilities

• Provide real‑time interpretation between English and the assigned partner language for medical appointments, preserving meaning, tone, and intent.
• Accurately interpret medical terminology, including diagnoses, procedures, medications, and care instructions.
• Maintain neutrality, request clarification when needed, and refrain from giving personal opinions or advice.
• Handle emotionally challenging or high‑pressure calls with composure and professionalism.
• Adhere to confidentiality, privacy, and data‑protection standards while following established interpreter protocols.
• Work scheduled shifts consistently, remaining available for calls throughout assigned U.S. time‑zone periods.

Required profile

• Fluent, professional‑level English and a partner language (Kinyarwanda, French, or Swahili).
• Valid English proficiency certificate (C2 level, 78% or higher).
• Excellent grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary in both languages.
• General knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare concepts.
• Ability to interpret accurately and efficiently in real time.
• Comfort handling confidential and sensitive patient information.
• Availability to work shifts aligned with U.S. time zones.
