Nutritionist – Refugee Camp (Rwanda)

About the role

Alight Rwanda is looking for a Nutritionist to work directly in refugee camps, ensuring that new mothers and infants receive balanced meals and appropriate nutrition education. The role involves close collaboration with health centre staff and other program teams to improve maternal and child nutrition outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and monitor the nutrition status of new mothers and babies, using standardized anthropometric tools.
• Provide warm, balanced meals to each new mother three times daily until discharge from maternity.
• Deliver individualized nutrition counseling on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Feeding (MIYCF) practices before discharge.
• Conduct home visits to reinforce nutrition messages, distribute supplementary foods, and support exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months.
• Organize and participate in food distribution activities according to established protocols.
• Maintain accurate client records, collect service data, and prepare statistical reports.
• Collaborate with other Alight departments, the health centre, and community caregivers to ensure coordinated service delivery.
• Report any operational challenges to the Nutrition Coordinator and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Experience in assessing nutrition status of mothers and infants.
• Ability to conduct anthropometric measurements using standardized tools.
• Knowledge of MIYCF practices and ability to provide nutrition counseling.
• Capability to maintain confidential client records and generate data reports.
• Willingness to conduct home visits and work onsite in refugee camp settings.
