About the role
Fika (formerly Bridges to Prosperity) is recruiting a Finance and Accounting Manager for its country office in Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia or Ethiopia. The role owns the financial management of the country office: the full accounting cycle, month-end close, internal controls, payroll, banking and country-level donor financial reporting. It ensures accurate, compliant, audit-ready country books that roll up to regional and global finance, and works closely with the Country Director and programme teams to keep spending aligned with budgets and donor terms.
Key responsibilities
- Accounting and month-end close: maintain the general ledger in Sage Intacct, run month-end and year-end closing, prepare monthly reporting packs for the Africa Controller and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Banking, payments and internal controls: review payments, monitor bank balances, oversee bank reconciliations, petty cash and accounts payable, enforce approval workflows and conduct monthly internal reviews of transactions.
- Payroll: manage payroll and timekeeping, certify timesheets, reconcile payroll and meet statutory obligations such as PAYE and social security.
- Donor financial management: prepare and submit donor financial reports, monitor grant expenditure against budgets and support proposal budgets and quarterly programme reviews.
- Sub-recipients and partners: carry out financial due diligence, support sub-award agreements, monitor sub-recipient spending and follow up on questioned costs.
- Audit and compliance: act as country finance lead for external and statutory audits, coordinate audit responses, ensure tax filings and NGO reporting compliance, and strengthen financial processes.
- Team leadership: supervise Finance Officers and Finance Assistants, give technical guidance and set performance expectations.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA, ACCA or a recognised local equivalent strongly preferred.
- At least five years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least two years with an international NGO; experience managing multi-donor projects preferred.
- Knowledge of the full accounting cycle and demonstrated grant accounting experience, including restricted funds and donor reporting.
- Working knowledge of institutional donor regulations (USAID, FCDO, EU or similar) preferred.
- Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the country; work permit sponsorship and relocation support are not provided.
Required skills
- Sage Intacct or a comparable ERP system
- Advanced Excel
- Internal financial controls and audit requirements
The organisation offers flexible work arrangements, wellness support and annual salary reviews aligned with its compensation policy, with professional growth opportunities.
