Field Agent – Responsible Mining Monitoring

About the role

The Field Agent will work on‑site in Rwanda to ensure that artisanal and small‑scale mining (ASM) operations comply with legal, regulatory and responsible sourcing standards. You will act as the eyes and ears of SLR Better Mining, identifying and reporting any risks to human rights, health and safety, the environment or supply‑chain integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular visits to assigned mine sites and collect verified data on incidents, risks and events.
• Assess and record risks related to human rights abuses, health and safety hazards, environmental damage, fraud, illegal mining and conflict‑related issues.
• Immediately flag and report any identified risk through SLR Better Mining reporting channels.
• Engage with local stakeholders to verify information and support implementation of corrective measures.
• Monitor progress against agreed objectives and ensure compliance with mineral traceability procedures aligned with OECD guidance.
• Oversee tagging and scanning processes at mine sites.

Required profile

• High level of integrity, vigilance and professional judgment.
• Ability to work independently in remote field conditions.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with mine operators, local partners and project teams.

Required skills

• Experience using field data collection tools and monitoring systems.
• Knowledge of responsible sourcing standards such as OECD Due Diligence Guidance.
