Associate Director, Teaching & Learning (Engineering)

About the role

The Associate Director of Teaching & Learning will shape the strategic direction and operational delivery of the Teaching & Learning pillar for Carnegie Mellon University Africa and the Afretec network. Reporting to the Center Director, this senior leader will drive teaching excellence, faculty development, curriculum innovation and inclusive student success across a consortium of leading African universities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead strategic planning, implementation and continuous improvement of Teaching & Learning initiatives across CMU‑Africa and partner institutions.
• Oversee faculty development programs, curriculum design, and assessment practices to enhance educational quality.
• Coordinate and supervise staff, consultants and contractors delivering Teaching & Learning programs.
• Collaborate with academic leaders, industry partners, government stakeholders and Afretec faculty to build a robust, inclusive learning ecosystem.
• Monitor student success metrics and drive initiatives that increase access to engineering and technology education.
• Represent CMU‑Africa in external forums and contribute to research and innovation agendas aligned with Africa’s digital transformation.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in higher education, engineering education or related fields.
• Demonstrated ability to design and scale curriculum and faculty development programs.
• Strong track record of partnership building with universities, industry and government.
• Excellent strategic thinking, communication and change‑management skills.
