Associate Director, Knowledge Creation

About the role

The Associate Director, Knowledge Creation will lead the development, coordination and dissemination of research outputs at Carnegie Mellon University Africa. Based on‑site in Kigali, this senior position works closely with faculty, researchers and students to enhance the institution’s research visibility and impact across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Guide and support research initiatives, including grant proposal development and reporting.
• Manage knowledge repositories, publications and other research deliverables.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and document best practices.
• Organise seminars, workshops and conferences to showcase research findings.
• Strengthen partnerships with industry, government and other academic institutions.
• Contribute to strategic planning for research and innovation aligned with university goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience in academic research management and supervision of research projects.
• Strong background in engineering, information technology, data science or a related discipline.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English, with ability to translate complex research for diverse audiences.
• Experience mentoring early‑career researchers and graduate students.
• Master’s degree required; PhD or equivalent research leadership experience is highly beneficial.
• Familiarity with the African higher‑education and research ecosystem is an advantage.
