Accountant

About the role

The Accountant works under the Finance Manager and is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring compliance with financial policies and donor requirements. The role covers payments, reconciliations, reporting and supports the hospital in maintaining transparency and financial sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Record all financial transactions in line with accounting standards and hospital policies, and prepare and process vouchers, payments and receipts.
• Maintain up-to-date ledgers and reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts and other balance sheet items monthly.
• Verify supplier invoices, purchase orders and supporting documents before payment, and prepare cheques, bank transfers and mobile payments with proper authorization.
• Track outstanding receivables and follow up on collections from insurers, donors and partners.
• Support annual budgets and forecasts, and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management and donors.
• Monitor spending against budgets and report variances; assist with audit schedules and auditor queries.
• Ensure compliance with RRA tax obligations (VAT, PAYE and other statutory deductions) and keep accounting records properly filed.
• Support internal controls, work with procurement, billing and administration teams, and provide financial data for donors and government reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
• Professional certification (CPA, ACCA or equivalent) preferred.
• 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare or NGO environment.
• Integrity, confidentiality and strong ethical standards, with accuracy and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS)
• Knowledge of Rwandan financial regulations
