Temporary Works Design Project Engineer

About the role

The Temporary Works Design Project Engineer will lead the design, analysis and delivery of temporary structures required for airport construction projects. Working on runways, taxiways, aprons and airport buildings, the engineer ensures that all temporary works comply with aviation regulations and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop temporary works solutions such as scaffolding, formwork, falsework, edge protection, propping and temporary bridges for airport infrastructure.
• Produce and review engineering calculations, drawings and proposals to guarantee constructability and compliance.
• Ensure designs meet BS 5975, Eurocodes, local and aviation‑specific regulations and health‑safety standards.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers, contractors and airport authorities to align design with schedule and site constraints.
• Conduct site visits, inspections and provide on‑site guidance to verify structural integrity and safety.
• Carry out risk assessments and develop safe systems of work for high‑risk elements such as deep excavations or large suspended structures.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote continuous improvement through industry best practices and software advancements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it, preferably with ICE or IStructE.
• 8–12 years of experience in temporary works design, including airport or large‑scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of temporary works design principles, structural analysis, reinforcement, steel and timber codes.
• Familiarity with local, national and aviation‑specific regulations and safety standards.
