Plumbing & Mechanical Engineer – Fixed-Term (Rwanda)

About the role

One Acre Fund is seeking a Mechanical/Plumbing Engineer to lead the design and installation of building services for its seed processing facilities in Rwanda. The role is fixed‑term and focuses on delivering high‑quality, reliable systems that support long‑term agricultural operations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical design reviews and provide engineering oversight for plumbing, HVAC/ventilation, fire protection and water systems.
• Validate designs, approve contractor submissions and ensure constructability.
• Supervise installation of mechanical and plumbing systems, including water supply, sewer, drainage, irrigation and pumping infrastructure.
• Conduct site inspections, monitor installation quality and oversee testing and commissioning before handover.
• Enforce quality and safety standards, coordinate with civil, structural, architectural and electrical teams to avoid conflicts.
• Resolve on‑site engineering challenges, review contractor reports and document lessons learned.
• Provide technical guidance to contractors, develop scopes of work and support junior engineering staff.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of experience as a Mechanical or Plumbing Engineer.
• Proven ability to lead design reviews, supervise installations and manage multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience in seed processing or similar industrial facilities is a plus.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
