HSE Manager – Health, Safety & Environment

About the role

The HSE Manager will lead the development, implementation and enforcement of health, safety and environmental policies across all operational areas. You will guide a dedicated HSE team, ensure regulatory compliance and foster a strong safety culture within the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee implementation and enforcement of HSE policies and procedures.
• Lead, coach and train the HSE team.
• Develop and maintain the HSE management system in line with regulations and company standards.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses, and drive corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate with other departments and external stakeholders to promote safety and environmental stewardship.
• Monitor and analyse HSE performance metrics and prepare management reports.
• Participate in emergency response planning, drills and ensure readiness.
• Stay updated on emerging HSE trends, technologies and best practices.
• Represent the company at HSE meetings, forums and regulatory inspections.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of HSE management experience on large‑scale construction projects.
• At least 3 years managing HSE on high‑rise buildings (hotel, residential or commercial mixed‑use).
• NEBOSH IGC certification (essential) and ISO Auditor certification (preferred).
• Experience working in Africa or other developing countries with challenging environments.
• Familiarity with international and local labour, health and environmental legislation.
• Cross‑cultural sensitivity and ability to work in diverse environments.
• Fluent English and strong communication, planning and teamwork abilities.
