Full‑time Postdoctoral Fellowships in Science Education (Physics & Chemistry/Biology)

About the role

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Teacher Training Program in Rwanda is offering two 18‑month full‑time postdoctoral fellowships. One fellowship focuses on physics education and the other on chemistry or biology education. Fellows will conduct high‑quality research, publish in accredited journals, and contribute to evidence‑based interventions that improve secondary‑level science teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake focused research leading to publications in accredited journals.
• Present research findings at conferences and high‑level policy dialogue sessions.
• Help shape research‑informed science‑education interventions for physics, chemistry or biology.
• Support capacity building for action research among mathematics and science teachers in the TTP program.
• Assist in designing short postgraduate programmes for Masters students, especially TTP teachers.

Required profile

• PhD in science education (physics, chemistry or biology) obtained within the last five years (exceptionally older candidates may be considered).
• Demonstrated interest and expertise in teaching the relevant subject at secondary level.
• Evidence of scholarly performance and strong English writing and computer skills.
• Proficiency in quantitative and qualitative data analysis is an advantage.
