Senior Special Systems Manager

About the role

Mace is seeking a Senior Special Systems Manager to lead the technical delivery of special systems on a landmark airport project in Rwanda. You will oversee the full lifecycle from design through commissioning, ensuring compliance with ICAO standards and client requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical management of all special systems packages from design, procurement, installation, integration to commissioning.
• Review and approve design submissions, shop drawings and technical submittals against ICAO standards and project specifications.
• Coordinate interfaces between special‑systems contractors, MEP contractors, civil works teams and the airport operator’s IT/technology teams.
• Develop and execute the special systems commissioning strategy, including FAT, SAT and integrated systems testing programmes.
• Liaise with the Rwandan Civil Aviation Authority and international aviation bodies for technology certification and regulatory approval.
• Maintain a risk register for special systems and manage technical risks to closure.
• Provide technical input for tender documents, bid evaluations and contract award recommendations.
• Produce regular technical progress reports and flag deviations to the Project Director.
• Manage handover of all special systems, including training, as‑built documentation and warranties.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years’ experience in special systems management, including at least one major international airport project at senior level.
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, IT or related discipline; chartered engineer status preferred.
• Fluency in English; experience in Sub‑Saharan Africa is advantageous.

Required skills

• AGL, SCADA, BMS, FIDS, BCMS, BHS interfaces and security systems.
• Deep knowledge of ICAO Annex standards, IATA AHM and aviation technology certification processes.
• Strong programme and interface management capabilities.
