Senior MEP Manager

About the role

Mace is seeking a Senior MEP Manager to lead the mechanical, electrical and plumbing design for a landmark aviation project in Rwanda. You will guide the MEP team from concept through to construction documentation, ensuring compliance with client briefs, statutory requirements and programme milestones.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the MEP design team across all RIBA/project stages from concept to IFC.
• Manage design reviews, technical submittals, RFIs and drawing approvals, maintaining a live design tracker.
• Provide technical assurance during construction, verifying that contractor installations meet specifications and IFC drawings.
• Oversee procurement of long‑lead MEP equipment in partnership with the commercial team and track delivery against the programme.
• Develop and execute the MEP commissioning strategy, including pre‑commissioning, system flushing, testing and client/authority witness testing.
• Interface with Rwanda Energy Group, water utilities and other statutory bodies for connections and approvals.
• Identify and manage technical risks, raising early warnings for design or construction deviations.
• Lead value‑engineering exercises while preserving system performance and lifecycle cost.
• Prepare the handover package: O&M manuals, as‑built drawings, commissioning records, warranties and training.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of MEP project experience, including senior responsibility on an international airport or major transport hub.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with CIBSE, IET or equivalent and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• Proven design‑management capability across mechanical, electrical and plumbing disciplines.
• Experience delivering MEP projects in Sub‑Saharan or East Africa is preferred.
• Commercial awareness of NEC or FIDIC contract administration.
• Strong leadership and communication skills to manage multi‑discipline consultant and contractor teams.
