Senior Internal Auditor

About the role

Akagera Sacco Kayonza is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to strengthen governance, internal controls, compliance and risk management. The role reports to the Head of Internal Audit and involves overseeing audit activities across the institution.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute risk‑based internal audit plans on an annual, quarterly and monthly basis.
• Monitor compliance with BNR regulations, cooperative policies, IFRS standards and internal procedures.
• Prepare and submit audit and compliance reports to management, the Supervisory Board and the National Bank of Rwanda.
• Investigate operational irregularities, fraud risks and internal control weaknesses, and conduct special audits as needed.
• Support external auditors and ensure accurate recording of shares, deposits, loans and related transactions in the Core Banking System.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Auditing (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum three years of relevant experience in banking, micro‑finance or audit firms (or two years with a Master’s degree).
• Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA or CIA are highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of internal audit standards, risk management and regulatory compliance.
