Project Officer (Rwanda)

About the role

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Officer will support Raising The Village’s programmes in Rwanda, overseeing Project Assistants and ensuring that project designs and workplans are implemented on time and within budget. The role is highly field‑based, requiring extensive travel (approximately 80 % of the time) to remote rural communities.

Key responsibilities

• Align Project Assistants’ workplans with project designs and monitor their implementation.
• Conduct at least three site visits per week to supervise activities and provide on‑the‑ground support.
• Identify risks, propose mitigation measures and report issues to the Senior Project Officer.
• Coordinate with sector‑ and cell‑level government officials, facilitate trainings and mobilise communities.
• Provide coaching, performance reviews and mentorship to Project Assistants.
• Support donor reporting, proposal writing and approve staff leave requests.

Required profile

• University degree in Community Development, Project Management, Development Studies or related field (Bachelor’s in Agriculture preferred).
• Minimum three years of experience in community development, project management or facilitation at village level.
• Demonstrated experience working with local government institutions at sector and cell levels.
• Ability to travel extensively and ride a motorbike with a valid Rwandan permit.
