Mental Health Director

About the role

The Mental Health Director will lead Partners In Health’s Mental Health Program across three rural districts in Rwanda. Reporting to the Head of Division for Clinical Programs, this senior clinical leader will ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered mental health services in hospitals, health centers, and community settings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall clinical leadership for mental health services across all IMB‑supported facilities.
• Develop, disseminate, and implement evidence‑based clinical guidelines, care pathways, and SOPs for priority mental health and neurological conditions.
• Oversee quality of pharmacological, psychological, and psychosocial interventions, including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, epilepsy care, and rehabilitation.
• Champion patient safety initiatives, manage psychiatric emergencies, and promote dignity‑centered care.
• Mentor and supervise senior mental health clinicians and program managers.
• Lead quality‑improvement projects and strengthen health system integration.
• Engage with national partners to align the decentralized mental health model with Rwanda’s health strategy.

Required profile

• Extensive clinical experience in mental health, preferably in low‑resource settings.
• Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary mental health teams.
• Strong understanding of mental health policy, quality improvement, and health systems strengthening.
• Excellent communication and mentorship skills.
