IT Director

About the role

IPA is seeking an experienced IT Director to lead its global IT function. You will shape strategy, governance and service delivery for a distributed workforce of roughly 450 staff across 20 country offices and numerous field data collectors.

Key responsibilities

• Define, maintain and adapt IPA’s IT strategy to align with organizational priorities, resource constraints and compliance obligations.
• Own the IT governance framework, including security, access management, data governance, acceptable use, vendor management and emerging‑technology policies.
• Advise senior leadership on technology risks, investment decisions and regulatory requirements in clear, non‑technical language.
• Evaluate emerging technologies such as AI and automation and recommend responsible, mission‑aligned adoption pathways.
• Lead, develop and retain a team of six IT professionals, establishing clear domain ownership and accountability.
• Recruit to fill capability gaps and build a scalable team structure.

Required profile

• Significant experience leading global IT functions in complex, multi‑site or nonprofit environments.
• Strong track record of developing and enforcing IT governance and compliance frameworks.
• Ability to translate organizational needs into technology priorities and to communicate risks to senior leaders.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with a focus on people development and team building.
