IPC MNH Officer – Infection Prevention & Control for BEVD

About the role
The IPC MNH Officer will support the MCGL BEVD Project in Rwanda, strengthening infection prevention and control (IPC) and outbreak readiness within maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) services. Embedded in selected health facilities, the officer will act as the focal point for IPC mentorship, capacity‑building and technical assistance to ensure facilities are prepared for Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease (BEVD) outbreaks while maintaining essential MNCH care.
Key responsibilities
- Provide continuous on‑site mentorship and coaching to IPC focal persons, healthcare providers and facility leadership on evidence‑based IPC practices for BEVD risk.
- Support implementation and monitoring of IPC workplans aligned with national guidelines and project objectives.
- Conduct routine facility assessments using tools such as the IPC/WASH HERO CAPE checklist and IPCAF, analyse findings and guide corrective actions.
- Develop, enforce and update IPC protocols, policies and guidelines in line with national and international standards.
- Strengthen triage, screening and isolation procedures, promote hand‑hygiene compliance and environmental cleaning standards.
- Coordinate training needs assessments and deliver IPC training to staff at district hospitals, health centres and posts.
- Assist outbreak preparedness activities, including PPE training, supply readiness and simulation exercises for BEVD scenarios.
- Support procurement and distribution of basic IPC equipment and commodities in collaboration with district health teams.
Required profile
- Proven experience in infection prevention and control within health facilities.
- Familiarity with MNCH services and outbreak preparedness, especially Ebola‑related risks.
- Ability to conduct facility assessments and provide actionable feedback.
- Strong communication and coaching skills for on‑site mentorship.
- Willingness to work embedded in health facilities across selected districts.
