Construction Manager – Buildings

About the role

Mace is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead building packages on a landmark aviation project in Rwanda. You will oversee daily site activities, ensure programme adherence, and maintain high standards of quality, safety, and cost performance.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day construction management oversight of allocated building packages.
• Monitor programme, quality, safety and cost performance and report early warnings.
• Review and challenge contractor short‑term programmes (3‑week look‑ahead and 12‑week rolling).
• Chair daily/weekly site progress meetings, produce minutes and action trackers.
• Enforce quality compliance, review method statements and ITPs, raise NCRs as needed.
• Ensure works comply with the Project HSE Management Plan and stop unsafe work.
• Approve construction sequences, temporary works designs and site logistics plans.
• Identify and report variations, change events and early warnings per contract procedures.
• Manage interfaces between building, civil/infrastructure and MEP/special systems.
• Contribute to monthly progress reports and support commissioning and handover.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years construction management experience on major building or airport projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of reinforced concrete, steel framing, cladding systems and internal fit‑out.
• Familiarity with NEC or FIDIC contract mechanisms and ability to administer early warnings and compensation events.
• Experience in Sub‑Saharan Africa or comparable developing markets is preferred.
• Degree or HND in Civil/Structural Engineering or Construction Management; SMSTS or equivalent safety qualification.
• Robust, assertive communicator able to maintain standards under programme pressure.
