Pediatrician – Clinical Care & Teaching at Rural Hospital

About the role

The Pediatrician will deliver high‑quality inpatient and outpatient care for children and newborns at Butaro Level II Teaching Hospital while actively participating in teaching, mentorship, quality improvement, research, and health‑system strengthening initiatives in partnership with the University of Global Health Equity.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive general pediatric care, including acute and chronic condition management, emergency stabilization, and coordinated referrals.
• Lead daily pediatric ward rounds and contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions.
• Deliver neonatal care in the NICU, delivery rooms, and maternity wards, including resuscitation, management of prematurity, sepsis, jaundice, and other newborn conditions.
• Support pediatric oncology services as needed, managing cancer‑related and non‑cancer medical issues.
• Participate in on‑call schedules for pediatric and neonatal services.
• Develop and implement clinical protocols, SOPs, and quality‑improvement projects.
• Engage in clinical education, mentoring trainees, and collaborating with academic partners.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD/MBBS) with board certification or equivalent in Pediatrics.
• Valid license to practice medicine in Rwanda.
• Experience in inpatient and outpatient pediatric care, including neonatology.
• Familiarity with pediatric oncology care is desirable.
• Commitment to teaching, mentorship, and equitable health care delivery.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of pediatric and neonatal conditions.

• Implementation of clinical protocols and SOPs.
• Multidisciplinary teamwork and effective documentation.
