Civil Engineer – Fixed-Term (Rwanda)

About the role

One Acre Fund is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer (Project Engineer) to lead the civil engineering component of the RICA Seed Centre infrastructure project in Rwanda. You will be responsible for ensuring that all civil and structural designs are accurate, constructible, and compliant with project requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead civil design review and technical oversight, validating roads, drainage, foundations and external infrastructure.
• Develop and refine engineering solutions, including structural analysis and modelling.
• Coordinate civil designs with architectural and MEP disciplines.
• Supervise construction execution, covering earthworks, concrete structures, roads, drainage systems and utilities.
• Conduct site inspections, monitor contractor performance and enforce adherence to drawings, specifications and BoQs.
• Enforce quality standards, regulatory compliance and occupational health & safety procedures.
• Review contractor submissions, reports and claims, providing technical recommendations.
• Identify risks, implement corrective actions and ensure timely, high‑quality delivery.
• Provide on‑site technical guidance and training to contractors and junior engineers.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Civil Engineer or Project Engineer on infrastructure projects.
• Ability to lead design reviews, supervise construction activities and resolve on‑site engineering challenges.
• Strong focus on quality, safety and regulatory compliance.
• Willingness to mentor contractors and junior staff.
