Research Scientist I – Clinical Development (Kigali)

About the role

The International Vaccine Institute is seeking a Research Scientist I to join its Clinical Development Department in Kigali, Rwanda. This two‑year renewable position will coordinate, initiate, and complete clinical research projects that support vaccine development and implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and supervise clinical trials, including protocol development and submission to IVI IRB, local IRBs, and national regulatory authorities.
• Coordinate project interventions for designated diseases and assist in writing proposals, tools, and protocols.
• Develop and maintain external networks, identify potential partners, and support partnership agreements.
• Collaborate with Program Management, Clinical Operations, and Project Administration to ensure partner capacity, contract development, and budget alignment.
• Select and define terms for Contract Research Organizations (CROs) when required.
• Support the development of IVI clinical infrastructure and ensure proper archiving of project documents in compliance with regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Experience coordinating clinical research projects and ensuring compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
• Familiarity with IRB and national regulatory authority submission processes.
• Ability to develop funding opportunities and write scientific proposals.
• Strong organizational skills for managing budgets, contracts, and documentation.
